2024 Blind Date With a Book Challenge

Hello dear Readers,

A book stack of 12 books. There's a candle sat next to them on the right.

I hope you are all doing as well as possible and your 2024 has gotten off to a good start.

I thought I’d start off this year’s articles with talking about my Blind Date With a Book Challenge. For those of you that have been around here for a long time, you may remember that this is something I decided to do in 2023. Well I enjoyed the process so much, that I’ve decided to carry it on into 2024.

If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, let me give you a brief over view: {you can also read my full explanation here}

After seeing a few online bookshops offer a “Blind Date Book” option, where you choose your genre and tropes and they send you a mystery book that they think you’d like based on your choices, I decided to put something similar together for myself with books from my wishlists ~ last year I got everything from Bookshop.org, this year I’ve gone with Waterstones as I had a gift voucher and money on my Waterstones Plus card.

A stack of books wrapped in brown paper, with string tied around them. One book is in front of the stack, with a label saying January on it. Next to the books is a glass bud vase with a sprig of eucalyptus in it.

I did actually change things a little bit when it came to choosing the books I wanted to include. Instead of getting all 12 from my Waterstones Wishlist. I got 8 books from that list and chose 4 books from the books I already had on my TBR and have been meaning to read for a long time. I just felt that if I included those ones, it would make me prioritise them over other books I have. Next year, if I decide to do this, I might just choose books I already have on my TBR cart and wrap those instead. So including 4 books I already have is a test for that idea.

Once I had all the books and the other supplies I needed, I asked a family member to wrap them for me. I did put in a request for a couple of the months that I knew I needed slighter shorter books for, but other than that, I have no clue which book was chosen for which month and I’m looking forward to discovering what I’ll be reading as the the year goes on.

As for the wrapping choice, I decided to go down the “brown paper packages tied up with string” look because books are one of my very favourite things and I love how good they look! Once they were all wrapped, I decided to stamp them with my “From the Library of” stamp that I have and it just adds a lovely finishing touch to them. Honestly, I really need to stamp all my books with this because it looks so good!

Although I’ll be sharing what the Blind Date Book is each month over on my Bookstagram when I unwrap it, I’m planning to write a full review of each book here, so if you aren’t following me on there, you can still know what the book is and my thoughts on it. I’m also toying with a couple of other ideas regarding what books I want to review going forward and how I want to share what I’ve read each month. But I’ll share more on that when I’ve fully settled on how it’ll work best and a posting schedule.

If you’ve made this, you are amazing and before I let you go, I just want to say a huge thank you to anyone reading this. Your support, whether this is the first time you’re here or you’ve been reading my content in this little space for a long time, is really appreciated. I’m hoping to put more energy back into writing again this year as I know I didn’t do as much last year and I have missed it.

So here’s to more writing and book reviews as the year goes on!

Stay Safe. Read a Book.
